The Jaques Gallery exhibits original work by Francis Lee Jaques and changes seasonally. Startled, a hand pulled serigraph, from the book Canoe Country, is one of the works featured. The exhibit offers original scratchboards, oil paintings and graphite drawings by F.L. Jaques.
The Ephraim Jaques family settled outside of Aitkin on the Mississippi River in the late 1800’s after a long walk from Kansas. Lee never forgot his Minnesota roots and his art depicts his love of nature and the north woods.
The Jaques Art Center has loaned six original paintings to be part the Bell Museum of Natural History’s 2010 Francis Lee Jaques exhibition, which opened June 24. The paintings are a portion of the JAC’s permanent art collection.
